Mutation

This is a set of two ceramic vessels inspired by sculptures made from expanding foam, often seen in Polish allotment gardens as a form of creative expression by the owners. The expanding foam, because it’s unpredictable, was used to change the original, simple clay shape from the inside, creating new, unexpected forms by chance.

Process took about 7 hours, during which the clay adjusted to the expanding foam. The final shapes were then used to create plaster molds for casting ceramics. The remaining foam parts were used to create a second model, based on leftovers from the process of filling the clay mold.

This experiment explored uncontrolled processes, using expanding foam that changes constantly. The project was based on the idea of mutation, which is naturally unpredictable.
